An Exploration of Structured Group Dialogue Processes

June 8, 2012

9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Overview

When a group has to hold a difficult conversation, facilitators and group leaders must provide a structure and process that supports a safe, candid and respectful exchange of ideas.   This workshop is designed to provide participants with a better understanding of the choices for structuring group dialogues on contentious, emotional, or values-based issues.

Through discussions, demonstrations and participation in several dialogue processes, class members will learn ways to support effective dialogue among groups such as co-workers, stakeholder representatives, coalition members, neighbors, congregants, and family members.

Workshop attendees will

  • Participate in three structured group dialogue processes
  • Review a variety of additional processes for group dialogue
  • Clarify key considerations in selecting and facilitating each process
  • Identify practical applications for real-world conversations on difficult issues
